Temporary edge protection at First Street Manchester UK

Temporary edge protection delivered to project at First Street, Plot 9a in Manchester

SafetyRespect’s temporary edge protection barrier system’s lightweight and adjustable design has made it first choice at Manchester’s prestigious First Street development, Plot 9a in Manchester.

In the video above our MD Oliver Gwinnell is talking about the site. Over 2,100 linear metres of temporary edge protection barriers is being used to protect site staff while the nine floor, 131,000 square feet office building is built. The systems lightweight adjustable design makes it ideal for installing on the beam and lifting into the position. It can be adjusted up and down and in and out to facilitate the stud welding and metal deck installation without the need to remove the barriers. The products are robust enough for heavyweight, long-term use making it more and more everyone’s first choice.

Plot 9a, First Street is an office building in central Manchester with an expected completion date of August 2024. The main contractor is BAM Construction.

SAFETYRESPECT PLANNED SAFETY FOR FALL PROTECTION RIGHT THROUGH THE WORK AT HEIGHT HIERARCHY
Concrete Structures and Floors are using Temporary edge protection and catch fans that have been manufactured and supplied by SafetyRespect UK Ltd. The temporary edge protection system has been positioned on top of the floor slabs, around all perimeters. Barriers and Posts are removed for installation of Facade Brackets at floor level. These are replaced upon completion and don’t need to be removed again until glazed units are installed, effectively sealing the structure with permanent envelope.

CATCH FANS
Catch fans are a preventative measure to protect anyone working directly below a live structure from falling objects. They are designed to catch and contain falling objects by absorbing dynamic load into its catch area, manufactured from netting with a layer of fine mesh to prevent the ingress of small items as small as nails or bolts. The fan can be installed without any need of cranes and this version is designed to be installed on concrete floor slabs edges.

Scissorsafe cast in anchor for personal fall protection

TGM FACADES SPECIFIED THE UTILISATION OF THE SCISSORSAFE ANCHOR TO SUPPORT THEIR TEMPORARY WORK RESTRAINT SYSTEM
Scissorsafe is a cast-in anchorage system that eliminates the need to drill into concrete slabs. Efficiency and economy is achieved because the Scissorsafe anchor inserts and locks into pockets cast into the concrete -no drills, dust or load-testing required.

Unitised facade panels will be attached to the edge of concrete slabs around the entire perimeter of the Gramercy Tower structure. Installers will be protected during the facade install using collective and personal fall protection from our standard range of products. Temporary edge protection is installed on top of concrete slabs by the Formwork subcontractor. To install facade brackets to the edge of floor slabs, the Facade Installer installs a temporary running line (work restraint system) supported by Scissorsafe anchors. Temporary edge protection barriers are removed allowing access to edge of slabs. Installers access floor slab edges by adjusting work restraint lanyards.
